Menu info:
Well, this is the first menu that I have made for a dvd, so don't be too critical.
There are some errors in the menu (the select chapter page appears to pick a random chapter to select, but this doesn't affect the playing). The menu was rendered with the trial version of dvd-lab pro.
Video info:
Yes this could have been released as just a divx (the video is kinda blocky), but I received it as a dvd, so I kept it as such. The video stream was also very tricky to work with, it was apparently damaged on the disc so I had to reencode it. The video bitrate was the same and I didn't touch the audio at all.
Source info:
As I said, the source of this is unknown. The person I got it from wants to remain anonymous as well. From the looks of the quality, it is a high gen tape (but very watchable).
Alt Sources:
Yes I have done research and found out that there is a 2 disc version of The Psycho Tape out there. It contains no additional footage, it is just higher quality. As I doubt I will ever get that version, this one will have to do for now.
Release Info:
Well here it is, the infamous "Psycho Tape" in all its glory. I really hope that you guys all like it as I worked hard on getting this out (I am really sick of watching it now too... thanks!!!).

Enjoy

HiFi Stereo VHS>Video Card>DVD

This video was purchased a long time ago from a vendor. The gen is unknown but the colours bleed a little. The show is very dark, but not terrible quality. Sound is ok, there are some clicks in it. There are also some tape blips. I'm sure someone has a better copy of this anyway. This is my first time actually encoding a whole show from VHS - comments, questions etc - meladoridarcy@smashing-pumpkins.com

Upped: 2/17/05

I understand this to be the CBGB's show from 7/15/91, the tape says NY 1992, but I was told it was actually the 7/15/91 show, either way I hope its enjoyed.

1992-08-29 Reading Festival, Reading, UK [TV] (A thir13en Master)

**Mastered** by thir13en

My capture from VHS of the ABC broadcasted tracks, from a short-lived program called "In Concert". I originally did this about a year ago and seeded it here on the ZOMB, but I couldn't find that cap anywhere, so I did another and probably better one. Ripped through my Sony HDV camera, this one looks better and has seen some video remastering as well as my typical audio touch-ups.
Included is a DVD rendered version of the two songs and FLAC versions of both as well. I edited the video to very nearly be an official widescreen shot, as the top and bottom of the video would be cut-off due to excessive tracking noise anyways.
The audio transfer was very difficult, and some fixes were made. Each song had a weird blip that had to be corrected, but the fix is seamless. Siva had strange dropouts in the EQ on one channel and the song had to be mastered in three pieces. Bury Me was mastered in two pieces as EQ settings would change drastically during the extended drum break (still noticeable, nothing more I could do to it). They also contain the predictable 15.75k tone from video crossover frequencies, but otherwise have nice spectral coverage. They both sound about as good as they'll get.
Audio on DVD tracks is 16-48 wav files.
FLACs are 16-44.

1993-03-15 Center Stage, Atlanta, GA, US [AUD] (A thir13en Master)

Thanks to the supplier man, haylo.
Siamese Dream was recorded in Atlanta in the winter of '93, so some of the songs performed here are first timers. Interestingly, the versions are near identical renditions to the album, as the material is obviously quite fresh to them. Add the rare appearances of "HKK", "F&B" and James doing his best Dave Gahan impression for "I Feel You" and it's a fun time all the way through.
Video is quite good, once the folks around the taper settle in it's a great view of the stage. Killer set but unfortunate that "F&B" is cut just 20 seconds into the song. I filled in the audio with the AUD source and I did a quick-fill of video for that song. Basically it's a few cut up pieces in slow-mo crossfading once in a while. Better than a black screen or incomplete set. Also the very beginning of "Geek" is cut, I think the taper thought the banter would go on longer as they were switching guitars for that song. NBD though.
Transferred the same way as always, capped through my HD-cam and down-converted to DV, edited in Vegas and rendered in Main Concept MPG2 and Dolby Digital AC3. Sorry though, no 5.1, it's just stereo. I played with a bunch of different audio setups on this one and decided the straight stereo sounded the best to me. Audio was worked over, sounds ok, I think it's a little better than the straight audio, but not all that much. That's AUD's for ya.
Built a small menu for it, DVD begins with a title screen then the main menu appears, and song selections can be made from the track menu. Plus it has some nice soothing tunes and a built-in SP heart-shaped glitter lamp for your extra enjoyment.
Have Fun! I did.

VAR VHS>Standalone DVD

THE METRO AND MORE DVD

01. SP's performance from the metro in 1993. This is a rebroadcast from 1999 I believe. Excellent show, includes Disarm and Spaceboy. Runs 45 mins.
02. Interview with SP from 1995 from Muchmusic. Billy still had hair!! Most is in French but the band's commentary is in English w/French subs.
03. SP taking over much music from 1996. f/Billy, James, d'Arcy, Matt Walker and The Frogs. Really funny stuff.
04. Some other clips and Billy w a bunch of old men in Chicago discussing sports. It's boring. Billy looks so out of place.

Hope you enjoy!! These were taken from VHS's I had around and converted via a standalone player. There is a folder entitled VIDEO_RM or something like that, it should work on your DVD Player if u burn it along with the VIDEO_TS file. If not, exclude that file and burn again (or just don't burn it at all, its just a simple menu my DVD recorder made) Enjoy@@

1993-09-23 Guild Hall, Southampton, UK [AUD] + Bonus

I thought it was time for some more pumpkins DVD's. I got this in a trade a few years ago and re-authored it a while ago. I don't think I ever uploaded it here though, or anywhere for that matter, hehe.
The 1993-09-23 show has been up here before. It was uploaded by xdx. I have tried to compare these two DVD's and the source looks the same to me. Even if it's two different sources the difference is so little it's not noticeable to me. On both DVD's the source is definitely a high gen tape, not sure which gen though. The sound is a bit far away but it's decent and at least to me quite listenable when turned up loud.
This DVD also has some extras. All of which have been up here before, not in this way though. The 1994-02-24 MTV broadcast (5 songs) was also uploaded by xdx a while ago, thank you! This dvd has the same broadcasted 5 song version but is a definite upgrade.
The Geek U.S.A. from Rock AM Ring is available on the "Siamese Dream" compilation dvd I uploaded last year.
Disarm from the 1994 MTV Video Music Award has been uploaded here before, sorry but I don't remember by who. This version doesn't meet up to the quality of that one.
I've re-authored this since I got it. Just added a functional menu with correct chapter marks.
Anyway, if you download this dvd, enjoy!

I bought this show at a record convention in OKC in around May 1994 for $25.

Audience shot
This show has some flaws in the tape, and the camera tends to stray here and there. The cameraman is primarily filming Billy most of the time. The very beginning of Geek U.S.A is cut, the very end of Soma is cut as well as the very beginning of Cherub Rock. However, there is some very interesting conversation going on b/w Billy & the audience, eventually leading to Billy walking offstage in the middle of Silverfuck. They come back onstage, but the first 1:30 of Bury Me is silent. Despite the flaws the show is very entertaining. Sound quality is pretty good. Enjoy!!

1993-2005 Crystallization [PRO]

==================================
Crystallization - DVB Pumpkins
==================================

This might just be the only disc of it's kind.
It contains lossless audio AND video Pumpkins, which remains something of a rarity to this day.
Though the quality vary between the clips, it represents the best available source, at least as of yet, for each one of them. They are by all but stringent academic standards identical to the respective broadcasts sent out in the first place.
But this is not enough.
Loads of greatness awaits, most any Pro Video would've had or could've had a source broadcast just as great, wasted on vhs or DVD recorders.
Do you want more?
The Rockpalast clip comes from a complete concert that has been aired at least once a year 1996-2001, but never since. The people responsible for the broadcasts are likely Pumpkins fans, and regardless in many aspects unique in the way they allow feedback from their audience to influence their programming.

Please make the (trivial) effort of requesting the complete concert. Rockpalast will almost certainly heed to the call if a few hundred, heck, a few ten, would contact them.
E-mail: rockpalast@wdr.de
Telefon: 0180-5678 009 (12 Cent/Min, Mon-Fri 15:00-19:00)
Snailmail: WDR Rockpalast - Info-Line - 50600 Köln
www.rockpalast.de also has a newsletter, join that, and a guestbook, post there!
A few select phrases of German:
-------
English:
--------
[1] "Could you show the concert 'the Smashing Pumpkins' from 1996 please?
I saw 'Today' recently and it was super!"
[2] "Please show the concert 'the Smashing Pumpkins' from 1996!"
[3] "More Smashing Pumpkins please!"
[4] "the Smashing Pumpkins clip was great. More of that Rockpalast!"

These, combined with some limited linguistic wit, and babelfish, should make your requests legible enough.
I will continue to record any DVB Pumpkins I can get my hands on, but this would be quite a big thing. Equally so, any effort taken by the community towards this would signal praise and motivation to my ongoing pursuit.
If these little DVDs I post means something to people, then surely this concert, yet to be recorded, means something too? How much? Does the immense tremble and effort of communicating some lines in German really surpass the joy you would feel, had you that concert right now?
You decide.
Peace,
/Per

The Smashing Pumpkins - Crystallization.txt (this file)
.MD5 (regular checksum)
*.PAR2 (advanced checksum that includes parity bytes, for recovery)

You need to copy the checksum files to the VIDEO_TS dir in order to verify the dvd.
They cannot be placed there when you burn the disc, it would break the dvd-standard.
The par2 files will help you recover from a partially damaged (scratched) disc.
Simply copy everything to HDD and run quickpar with the par2-files.

Notes:
-During the first few seconds of Rocket there is a presenter telling about what you can see in the broadcast later that evening. You can already hear the Pumpkins start Rocket at the back of him, so I left him in.
-Today is cut because the broadcast of the Pinkpop Festival was interrupted for other programs. At the end of Today you can see the end credits of the broadcast.
-The very first notes of Disarm are cut. This is the way it was broadcasted.
-The transition from Drown into Hummer is missing a part. Drown was not broadcasted until a few years after the festival and to make the show more complete I have included it in the place where it belonged in the setlist. The Pumpkins went straight into Hummer and a little part of that transition is missing due to 2 different broadcasts.

Well here is an upgrade to the ASF version of 666 (there are no mpgs, they are just renamed ASF files). The source of this tape is dsheinem, so a huge thanks goes out to him for letting me borrow the tape. As far as the release goes, all I did was use a VHS->dvd setup at school and let it go. After the transfer to dvd, all I did was use the pods to make menus (I didn't touch the audio and video from the original transfer). Sorry about the AC3 for audio, but that is how the machine captured it. If enough people want lossless audio (for cd) then I will transfer the audio off.
Also the chapter splits are in the exact same place as the original ASF files.
Sorry I was just feeling too lazy to split it otherwise.

Enjoy

1995-03-02/3 Pumpkinland, Chicago, IL, US (JDM source 666 Sessions) [PRO]

This version of the 666 video should be considered "definitive" as it is sourced from the tape provided by Don Dowdy, the friend of the former MTV employee who distributed the tapes. This DVD features two audio tracks -- one with a remastered track that is louder, EQ'd, and missing most of the tape hiss, and one with the "original" sound on the tape, completely untouched [for the nerds].

I am also sharing out comparison pics so you can see the improvement in the screenshots provided there.

Best,

-JDM

**Mastered** by thir13en

Shout outs to haylo (AKA the C-man of rockin' OKC!)
When I got the package, I had totally forgot what he was sending me, I just remembered saying I was willing to do some DVD mastering for some vids he had. So when I saw this date, I got excited. I knew there was video of this but I've never seen it. I saw the camera that night, it was the sound guy's camera and it sat right in front of his setup. We were just to the left of the camera. I always check out the gear and generally hang near the board, the best sound in the house. I usually know and chat with the sound guys too, but at this point we had just returned to the area a few months earlier, and after a ten year absence it takes a little time to get back to the who's who in town.
Now seeing the footage over ten years beyond the performance I felt validated. Of all the stories I've told of that crazy night, it all starts with how great the show was. And it's no bull, as I now have video evidence, proof to any non-believers that it was indeed a magical night.
After five years of dedicated fandom, this would be my first live Pumpkins experience, as I never found myself in the same town as them until this moment. Even at this point, I had spent a considerable amount of time watching talented musicians do they're thing right in front of me, and often times it's quite the spectacle. Being a drummer myself, getting a chance to witness Jimmy was gonna be a total treat. But what I didn't realize was how mesmerized I would be by watching Billy play the guitar. I was transfixed. It's an incredible sound-vision combo, his right arm slamming maniacally against the guitar as his left hand seamlessly floats around the fretboard. I'd never witnessed anything like this before.
So it turns out that this is what you spend most of the time watching here as well, the camera (stable shot, it was sitting on top of a gear rack) is 90% focused on Billy, and with lights you get shots of Jimmy behind him. During "Take Me Down" the cameraman shifts the focus to James and during "We Only Come Out At Night" we get a cute duet shot (sort of) of Billy and D'arcy. But mostly it's a Billstravaganza.
During this brief tour they were performing an acoustic set, then a break, then an extended electric set. So I split the discs in two, creating one for each set, making disc one a very short disc and disc two more than twice as long. But it worked out pretty good.
Just before XYU you'll hear Billy mention the snow and that we might all be stuck there. When the second set started, it began snowing with blizzard like force, and by the time they reached the XYU encore, there was about 5 inches on the ground. Debate went on about whether they should continue, but the crowd didn't budge and the show carried on into the lengthy guitar feedback duel at the end of "Silverfuck". Absolutely mesmerizing.
When we finally reached the car, there was about 8 inches down en route to a total of 38 inches over the next 30 hours. I'm pretty sure they were stuck in town for a few days.
Though I had an elaborate menu plan for these, in the end I just made a title screen for it and then the show starts. Sorry you menu freaks, maybe next time. It is chaptered though, so feel free to advance through the show if necessary (but shame on you if you do!).

SOURCE INFO
VHS tape in very good condition, some video tracking farts in the first 30 seconds, then fine. Video tracking noise on bottom of screen was cropped.
Audio on the VHS was good, clear highs but quite distorted on the right side during the electric set. I dug up the circulated AUD source in which the info claims it's not likely to be from this video source. Actually, it most definitely is from the video (whenever the camera moves, the exact same knocking noises are present on both sources), but oddly I found it to be much faster and higher pitched and with a lot less high-end. As I slowed it down to match the more obvious proper speeds of the VHS, I still had to pitch it down, and then I noticed it had probably gone through considerable noise reduction as that was less obvious at the faster speed. All of this left me with two average and somewhat flawed versions of the same source.
So, I took both versions and created a decent 5.1 mix of the whole thing. It doesn't sound too bad at all for what it is. If you listen on a straight stereo system it'll sound ok but there may be, at times, slight phasing of the two identical sources. My tests of 2-track downmixes sounded nice, but it definitely will sound best on a 5.1 system.

Additional notes: There are no chapters, but the DVD recorder automatically sets marks every 5 minutes. I used FR (flexible recording) mode to record this. The DVD recorder has SP (2hour), LP (4hour), EP (6 hour), and XP (8hour) modes built in. There is also an FR mode that allows you to set a specific time length down to the minute. Therefore, you get the BEST possible conversion by using the entire length/size of the DVD, instead of only using half the DVD's capacity and wasting space (and quality). In this case the video runs 2hr 25min, so I would've used only a little more than half the space a DVD allows in LP mode (4hours). I set the FR time at 2hrs 30min to allow room for finalizing the disc. Although others could've done a better job... this is the best I could do for getting this video out the same way it looks on my VHS. This was shot from the center of the 2nd bowl. Due to it being shot from so far back there is a slight time delay that is very obvious when you see Matt Walker hit his snare or a cymbal. It is like this on the VHS. This is not a time sync error between the audio / video. I've never seen this posted before and it was requested, so I decided to go ahead and convert my VHS to DVD. I was personally at this show right up on the barricade between Billy and James. It was an awesome show, so it's too bad this video doesn't really do it justice. There is a 2nd video of this show that was supposedly shot from either 1st or 2nd bowl on the side of the stage. I don't have that one and would like to get it if someone has it. So please post if you have the other video of this show. Enjoy!! - Toadkat9

-----
There was a bit of an error when they broadcast this, 2001(?)
I have had several people send me VHS copies of this and it's the same on all copies
At 1:09:06 there's a few seconds of black screen, then it starts playing again from about 30 seconds earlier
I removed this double play as best I could, but it's not frame perfect
As I mentioned, it's 4:3 [Letterbox], so there's black bars top and bottom if viewed on a 4:3 TV
If viewed on a widescreen there's black top and bottom as well as on each side
Big thanks to Scott for sharing this transfer

1998-05-28 Botanique Gardens, Brussels, BE [PRO]

Ok here as promised is the Smashing Pumpkins 1998-05-28 Brussels Botanique Gardens DVD (1.25.55hrs).
I got this a few years back from a record fair as a DVD. I think it's recorded direct to DVD from TV although it could be a VHS transfer. The quality is pretty good if a little washed out and has a tiny amount of colour bleed. The audio is excellent and it's a great venue and cracking Adore era show.

Enjoy and seed! TH.

I got this the 4th of June 2005, so seven years after the gig!
There's a little story about this DVD:
A French guy in Paris came to the FNAC after the concert and asked a salesman if there was a tape of the concert as it had been filmed. He was lended the VHS-M and made a copy of it, and gave back the copy to the salesman then he transferred it to DVD and spread it among the French SP community... thx to him !

I received this tape in a trade back in 1998 from Stacie Glass, who was a really great trader back then (if you're still around, I'd love to hear from you!)
Not sure of the generation of this tape, I'd say its rather low. Contains some of the Pumpkins show in Sydney, along with interviews (which cut into the songs sadly.. stupid editors..) and some band history along the way.
This was Triple J's "Recovery" special, along with some extras including interviews with Darcy and James, as well as D+J hosting Rage and picking their favorite music videos (videos were edited out)
I hope this is enjoyed. It really made me remember why I love (and still miss) SP.. and the venue is incredibly beautiful.
Oh and Billy attempts to throw the interviewer into the water.. he actually picks her up over his shoulder!! its pretty funny!!

One of the Adore shows I transferred with superior audio. The concert now sounds great, but the image is a little fuzzy in my opinion. But, its ratio free, so why not download it anyways?
The video is first generation. The audio is the Schoeps CCM4>Schoeps Box>SBM-1>TCD-D100. Taken from a DATc-5 at 44 khz.

Note: After the indoor set we get an interview with the band. The young boy with the Offspring shirt who is standing between Billy and the VJ is my 12 year old son. He had gone down to the show, hoping to see them in the parking lot. Accompanied by his sister and two cousins and against my better advice (you needed to have a wristband given out by the station to even get into the parking lot...and they didn't have those. Due to the threat of thunder storms they moved the first set inside. In order to make it look like an event they pulled kids into the building from the street. My daughter, and her two teen-age, female, cousins just happened to be walking past the stage door on the other side of the parking lot when it opened and they invited them in. They didn't invite the boy. All the girls insisted they had to stay together and the guy at the door relented, letting them all in. When we come back from the first commercial break of the interview the three girls are seated on the floor and the camera pans quickly past them.
For the outdoor portion all those inside were moved to a position side-stage.
Official Release Videos have been removed from the interview portion.

Notes:
My copy was from a vhs purchased on ebay, allegedly a second generation tape; making mine a third.
The picture quality indicates that its likely accurate; but while its a far cry from a proper dvb copy, its such a great show that the quality should come as no deterrent.
This gig was one of the few "warm up" gigs done before they went on their last tour.
All was not broadcasted, but a more complete copy could exist, and obviously a better generation one SHOULD exist.
Menus and chapters included.

This one is probably sourced from the mpg's that's floating around. The dvd structure also suggests that. For some reason the songs are all in the wrong order. The quality is still decent enough, at least if you ask me. Weather it is sourced from the mpg's or not, the content is still the same.
At least this is something until something else shows up.

Notes: I *think* that I taped the first broadcast (which I think was live, but I don't know for sure). The end of it is kind of messy, with video of the band still playing "Once in a Lifetime", a CD track playing as audio and no credits at the end. That's why I list "Once in a Lifetime" as (audio cuts out). I think MusiquePlus fixed the end before a rebroadcast the day after, but I dont know if "Once in a Lifetime" ends in a different way. MusiquePlus probably rebroadcasted the show without the interviews too (as they often did for shows like that), but in any way, this version sould be the more complete one, except maybe for that thing with "Once in a Lifetime".

Enjoy and give this away freely.
Special thanks to the person who recorded the broadcast and loaned the tape to me, as well as the person who provided the Tower Records DVD.
I originally put together the Storytellers and Untitled segments in 2002. I think I went overboard on the contrast and I'm not sure I deinterlaced properly, but I guess it's good enough. There's also some artifacting, but I think that's mostly from the digital cable broadcast (which is MPEG video to begin with).

Technical Info:
Audio One - This is the matrix release and is PCM. It had to be stretched in order to sync it to the video. The first 40 seconds of this track are from the vhs audio (before compression) to fill in the silence.
Audio Two - This is the original vhs audio and is in ac3. I chose to do ac3 so that the video quality could remain higher and so that I did not have to re-encode the video.
Video - Captured with an ATI 8500dv.
The vhs is an unknown gen. Brian Muehlhaus had this to say on netphoria:
I have the complete Storytellers video, even though it isn't really complete. I have been told that I have one of the lower generations around. Don't know if that is true, but I got mine from a guy named Jonathan Hunt in 2001 or so. If I remember correctly, some of the songs they played again aren't on the video I have, so technically it isn't complete, but I have heard that the complete video with every song that we have on the audio versions isn't in any circulation. Don't know if that is true.
Brian

The chapters of this release are messed up because I encoded the video with open gops. Some chapters start a little into the song. It doesn't effect anything too greatly.

Well recently Dr_Riot got this dvd from Brian Barbour. Since Dr_Riot could not reach the hub when he got this, he mailed a copy to me, and here I sit about to upload this to the hub. As far as the editing goes, Dead just added menus and removed the annoying station id from the black. He explains all of this on the dvd. Also there is an md5 with this dvd. Keep it! I have gotten quite a few DVDs off of the hub that were incorrect.-Enjoy

As broadcast live on MTV Germany.
Incomplete. Most of "Gossamer" is missing because MTV ended the broadcast to show an episode of South Park.
MTV broadcasts in a resolution of 544 x 576 pixels. This does not comply with the standard for PAL DVDs. Therefore, this DVD might not be compatible with every DVD player.

Thanks to Sebastian for this DVD.

2007-06-02 Rock am Ring, Nurburgring, Nurnberg, DE [PRO] (13) - 2 sources*

*1st Source:

Video Source - Most likely a PAL-sized version of the HD feed used for Mojo. Source was 720x576x32 native widescreen MPEG.
Resized and encoded to NTSC Widescreen DVD standards at 8300-CBR.
Patched in 13 minutes of websource video for "Gossamer" using my webstream cap.
----
Audio source - pTV from Obertu (complete show in high quality audio, dude you Rock!)
Patched in some missing audience portions using the webfeed.
Upsampled to 48K.

Big thanks to the usenet flooder and Obertu for the sources to make this happen.

==========
As if this needs to be said (it really doesn't) but it's all the rage:
*Seed this somewhere else as soon as you get it from here, please.
*Seed it absolutely anywhere you like, please.
*Rip the audio from it, down convert to 44K and burn to disc, please.
*Feel free to remove the thir13en and the (13) and take credit for the whole thing, if that's what gets you off, please.
*DO NOT hail me as a god or comment on how much I've contributed to the community, please. Sharing music is about as easy as it gets, and it's a nice thing to do, no need for grandstanding.
*DO thank the band, the engineers, the stage hands, the cameramen, the broadcasters and always the source originators.

I'll enjoy this if no one else does. If others do, my subconscience smile will just get a little bigger.

Hey Sebastian, read this faq:
1. Dude, life's too short...

Rock on, Peace out.
-M

Thanks to mixwell for this DVD.

*2nd Source:

The "Oh No Not Another Version Of This Show" version.
Or the "geek" version.
Or the "pre PAL including intro, patched PAL WDR Gossamer fix, patched webstream for Billy's stack-climb and stage exit" version.

Stats
-------
DVD type: Dual Layer DVD9
Format: PAL Widescreen
Any Conversion or re-encode: Only the webcast"outro" of Billy's exit
AUDIO: Main Track - 48-16 DVD Stereo Wave from Obertu's pTV source
Second Audio Track - 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround mix (same source)

Playable on a computer without burning: Absolutely.
-------
Again, it includes:
-Intro and 90% of show from pTV PAL widescreen source
-full "Gossamer" patched with matching PAL Widescreen WDR broadcast
-Outro (Billy's exit, from webcast)
-lossless DVD audio and surround mixes.
-Track Menus and Audio Select menu
-No logo's on screen except for the WDR patched portion.

Definitive? For my collection, yes.
Rock out, Peace On,
-M
